ATOTONILCO – Biggest TUBEdek® installation worldwide in a primary settling tank
The Atotonilco WWTP covers an area of 160 Ha in the town of Tula, Mexico. This plant includes the largest Primary Settling Tank (PST) facility in the world using lamellas and, nowadays is the sixth largest WWTP in terms of treatment capacity. The plant purifies approx. 60% of the wastewater produced in the Metropolitan Zone of Valley of Mexico (ZMVM). The effluent of this gigantic plant provides clean water to irrigate about 95,7 Ha in the surrounding valley of Mezquital, where about 700,000 inhabitants will improve their previously almost non-existing sanitary conditions.

The influent to the clarifiers had previously been pre-treated with coarse and fine screens and aerated de-gritting and grease removal.
In 2011 the consortium Sociedad de Aguas Hispano-Mexicanas-SAHM (stakeholders Acciona Agua Spain, Atlatec, Mexico) selected our former company GEA 2H Water Technologies (today Enexio Water Technologies GmbH) to supply and install approx. 17,000 m³ of lamellas TUBEdek® FS 41.84 (total surface area of 9,000 m²) in a total of 23 tanks.
18 tanks of 42 m width and 11,8 m length tanks were designed for the Primary Sedimentation TPC Conventional Process Treatment -dry season. At the same time, 5 tanks were designed for the TPQ -Chemical Process Treatment with coagulants and flocculants –wet season.
Significant savings in space and civil works were critical factors that found in our lamellas TUBEdek® 41.84 the most convenient alternative compared to the available conventional settlers.
After 1 year in operation and running calibration trials, the modules of TUBEdek® FS 41.84 and installed accessories were in excellent physical condition. This, confirmed by the responsible person in the plant for the operation and maintenance of this process, shows the great performance, design and quality of our TUBEdek® lamellas.
