WHAT ARE STRUCTURED PACKINGS USED FOR?
In thermal process engineering, components equipped with defined and optimized contact surfaces have been used for a long time. In this field, structured packings have, in some parts, completely replaced the previously common random packings and have proven to be indispensable in distillation, as they are more powerful and efficient in many aspects. They represent the current state of the art.
For exhaust air purification, this process has only just begun. Our experience from other applications shows that structured packings can also offer numerous advantages in chemical and thermal separation technology. In order to offer you a product in this field that meets the highest standards, we have developed MASSdek® packings.
These are used in exhaust air scrubbing, absorption and desorption, and are also suitable as biotrickling filters to remove VOCs, ammonia or hydrogen sulphide. MASSdek® is also used successfully in scrubbing systems with the highest separation efficiency.
The packings are manufactured exclusively in Germany, and we ensure their quality by means of in-house quality testing, which is carried out consistently, starting with raw material control and ending with testing on the finished product.
ADVANTAGES OF STRUCTURED PACKINGS
Tests have shown that structured packings perform better than random packings and thus offer economic advantages. Even if you retrofit your equipment at a later date, the return on investment will be achieved within a short period of time. In addition, we offer you suitable internals that include support grids, drift eliminators and liquid distributors. In this way, you can achieve optimum results and perfectly match your components. On request we also provide expert advice and competent engineering to support you in selecting the materials and the suitable packing type.
MASS TRANSFER WITH STRUCTURED PACKINGS: STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF MASSDEK®
MASSdek® packings consist of profile embossed plastic foils welded together to form packs.
EVEN LIQUID DISTRIBUTION FROM THE STRUCTURE OF THE WHOLE PACKING
This embossing and the structure created by the inclination of the foils inside the packs ensure uniform distribution of the liquid. This applies to both low and very high liquid loads.
HIGH RATE OF MASS TRANSFER BY PROFILE SHAPED FOILS
Gas and liquid are constantly mixed due to the wave-like profiles, so the interface between gas and liquid is constantly renewed and a high mass transfer rate is achieved. This design is proving to be more efficient than, for example, random packings. Tests have shown that structured packings achieve low pressure drop, offer optimum separation performance and high-pressure resistance. Other benefits include high-capacity throughput and good environmental compatibility.
When deciding on the right plastic, we provide you with a wide selection and are happy to offer advice.
STRUCTURED PACKINGS IN CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL EXHAUST AIR CLEANING
The use of structured packings in the field of exhaust air purification is still relatively new, but here, too, the advantages of this high-performance product are becoming apparent. In chemical exhaust air purification, undesirable substances from the gas phase are first physically dissolved in the scrubbing medium and neutralized by means of a chemical reaction.
The procedure is similar in biological processes, where the dissolved substance is absorbed and converted by bacteria. In trickle bed reactors, the structured packings are also preferably used due to their high compressive strength. Beneficial bacteria can build up on the packing surface to form a biofilm. Depending on the requirements, packings with grid, cross or vertical structure are selected.
We are here to help you with any questions you may have and can offer you expert advice.
